Musical Board Games with Judith Jain: Chutes and Ladders (Interval Reinforcement)

November 7, 2014

Note from Amy Glennon:

I recently had the opportunity to visit Judith Jain’s home studio in Tampa Florida. It was a special day, because this was the last day that Judith was teaching in her home studio. Judith is now teaching at her new academy, New Tampa Piano and Pedagogy Academy in Tampa, Florida.

I had the pleasure of visiting some dynamic group classes. The student loved performing pieces and listening to one another. They also loved playing Judith’s special reinvention of popular board games. I later videotaped Judith explaining exactly how she adapted the game for music classroom use.

“Chutes and Ladders” is adapted as a fun interval review game:

Dr. Judith Jain balances a career as performer and pedagogue. Judith’s Carnegie Hall debut took place in October of 2010. Her teaching career has been associated with the New School for Music Study, in Kingston, NJ, the University of Cincinnati-College Conservatory of Music, OH, and Indiana University in Bloomington.

Dr. Jain holds a Bachelors Degree in Piano Performance from Indiana University, a Masters Degree in Piano Performance from the University of Cincinnati-College Conservatory of Music (UC-CCM) and a Doctorate Degree in Piano Performance and Pedagogy at UC-CCM.
